Role of Indian Cinema

Indians are fond of watching Television. This is one large source of entertainment after the daily toiling hardship of life. It is important to note that per capita income of the country satisfies the category of lower middle class. There is a sharp contrast in the top 10 percent and the bottom 30 percent of the population in terms of lifestyle, resource availability & quality services. There are many industrialists who own property outside the country and their families are based aboard, on the other hand, there are lakhs of homeless Indians who die of cold in winter, or are at the hands of the heat wave. Media condition the minds of the audience who at times act discretion less and these add similar thoughts in their minds. It is said that how we acted is actually what we thought, what is deeply ingrained in our mind. Definitely, there is freedom of the media in our country, but the restraint that it offers should at least be researched sociologically. Many popular movies show excessive violence and feudal fights which is same time justified to project the role of lead actor. Even there are movies which portray the police masculinity. This has put a mental stop at the minds of the citizen to not see the police officers as friendly while it also defines the characteristics of the officers themselves who receive meager training after the induction into the duty. We can observe scenes in the streets where people are engaged in mouth fights. They are only saying big words communicating their counterpart on how they would harm each other in a greater manner. At some point, the rivalry even breaks into the fight. Afterward, these unnecessarily push them in their own dug hole.

The responsibility of the movie makers play an important role since the state is not scrutinizing their act; they should feel obligated in their actions. Their role in the setting the social standards cannot be ignored. If India has to develop, they are also the one leading from the front. For example, many famous actors/actress join politics owing to their popularity in the movies. We can even correlate the presence of 30 percent legislators holding criminal record against them. Violence or acting don gain them popularity and sometimes as the messiah of the masses. The mindset of the children is especially affected as many movies do not actually focus on the hardship involved to gain success, hardly any biography of a scientist set the stage on fire.

There are some movies which also fulfill the nationalist agenda. But shouldn't politics and art be kept apart?
