A degree for being a politician
Want to be an engineer, get an
engineering degree; want to be a doctor, do MBBS and similar degrees; want to
be a lawyer, study law; want to be a politician, what do you need to do? Well
in such cases they quote fundamental right of equality! They think that just
about any person is eligible to be a politician in the country irrespective of
his educational qualifications, his political views, his understanding of the
basic ethos and critical concepts of the constitution and so on. A person who
himself is not aware of such intricacies are left on the field, armed with
constitutional backing to support him and the result is what all we see today –
radical, thoughtless speeches, unaccountable and irresponsible remarks that are
also setting an example for the masses, more so the unemployed one who has
immense time in their account. Isn’t it disgraceful? Every other profession
feels the compulsion of getting into a formal academy, be it singer, a
sportsperson, an artist, a manager and yet one of the most impactful fields is
rotting for inclined talents. It doesn’t mean that we do not have people who
are willing to join politics. Politics is simply made inaccessible due to eccentric
policies of the policymakers. The current situation is such that one needs to
be a crorepati before even thinking about running for an election. There is a high level of nepotism and there is a parallel trend on the way in the current
scenario – political parties, in lieu of winning the seats are choosing popular
candidates from Bollywood, from sports and so on. They campaign lavishly,
decorated in expensive clothes, goggles, sitting in their Air-conditioned –
bulletproof vehicles. Such a pity! The discourse must change now. In fact, I am
completely okay when I see a civil servant leave his post and run for election.
I believe it is a valuable addition to the politics of the country as considering
his background he will be able to contribute way better than the others.
