Human again

That crooked person used to live here in these chemically colorful and smog-filled streets. There were others who are slowly turning into just like him. He was the first and behind him was the unending queue. He was poor and had no clothes to wear except the torn & dirty he was wearing. He smelled of garbage. He used to search for food in the generated waste thrown off the street of this locality. He grew desperate every time he saw left food on the street. There was competition between him and the stray dogs to get that piece. He was always thirsty and whenever he drank it was the drain water. He had no wish. His body was sticky. He didn't bath for months. Sometimes he used to beg. He had not laughed for ages. He was afraid of the light, especially the full moon which provided light in the dark when the sun was off in the night... He felt irritated every time he saw the full moon. He used to think that no such thing exists now that it is blasphemous, that humans possess no more humanity. He used to throw stones at various street lamps with his meager energy although it could not reach the high post. He was weak and is now confined to a parch near the street. He had not felt like a human for a long time. People said that he is a mad man. Whenever he came closer to them, they would hush him away, abusing. He was depressed and even no tears were left to tip off his eyes. In fact, he no longer cries. He was tired of crying.

All until one day, when the little girl new in the neighbor came running towards him and asked opening her lunch box. She could not open it herself. Here, he was in absolute denial of reality. He thought is it a dream? Is she making fun of him? These kids! Why can't they leave him? He got angry and looked away. He thought the girl will run away giggling. He thought he will now hear the laughter of the kids pointing at him. But to his grave surprise she remained and again asked innocently to open the box. Her eyes were soft amd glowing and was not penetrating his body. She must have considered him one of her favorite cartoon characters but to him all this gesture was ground breaking. He could not believe that someone has recognised him in this crowd. That's when he started to cry heavily. He broke down completely. He was touched. His heart was beating again. He found himself again. It was the total denial of his humanness which got lost and regained. What a day! People started to surround him and wonder that he is as well a human. He can as well feel.  He can have emotions like us. People!

Next day, he was nowhere to be found. Who knows, touch of humanness might have melted him...
