Coaching Institutes - India
It won’t be incorrect to say that
an industry has been built up around the educational coaching institutes for
getting students through the various entrance & qualifying examinations. At one hand,
they do provide value addition through their classroom sessions, but on the
other hand, they make a deep dent into the student’s financial backing. Majority
of the common men of India are not so economically sound. Those who
after all manage to arrange the funds in the jibe that their counterpart would
clear the examination had not realized the quantum of the seats that India
facilitates. This is true in the majority of the examinations. The net result is
that student lost his confidence and as well the hard earned money. There is hardly any correlation between the talent that the students possess and the outcome of the exam, as Einstein said, we don't measure fish's talent in its ability to climb a tree. It tells us about the shabby
educational model in India. It is now hijacked by the capitalist agenda. Those who
can afford it can make it, rest have to live their life putting the stone in their
heart.
The basic lacuna lies with the
exorbitant fees that these institutes charge. This is simply out of mind and surpasses the capability if the payer. Equally important is the living
cost around the institute and sustenance for the year. The charges should be as
per the success ratio, but the thing is that almost all of them charge just the
same. These coaching institutes who own no accountability for the end result must be regulated. No matter what, they happily make a good business topline annually, leaving
the students disarrayed. Even more, there is no personalized coaching, no student specific guidance because there is a dearth of the faculty. To what I know of the classes, more than 500 students sit together and all the students, irrespective of their level of understanding are considered on the same stage, what a pity and injustice!
There is another thing with the
topper’s advertising. It may be that a student who scored a good rank and was
distantly linked with the institute, no matter what was the real contribution
from the institute; they show them in their ads to lure a greater number of
aspirants. This is purely unethical practice and surprisingly even the exam
toppers of UPSC end up to it.
Now there are classes for the JEE
from the class 6th for the students. Think about it, a student is
still halfway to his school education and he has been preparing for the
engineering college almost 7-8 years ago. What really has been put up in his
mind? What if, he changes his mind midway? Is he been forcibly made up to prepare
for it? Does it not loosening his spirit to opt for something else? Similar is
the ordeal with the UPSC examinations. Nearly all the coaching institutes will
advertise to make you an IAS officer or an IPS officer and distantly may be an
IFS officer. There is a huge ratio for the number of students writing the examination
and the number of posts available in the country itself. For the approx. 900
all kind of posts, the success rate is 0.2%. Nothing to discourage here but see
the loss and the number of shattered dream and the precious time. This is
reflected when we realize that every one hour a student commits suicide in
India.
I have been coming across with
students who are preparing since the graduation time, even worse at the time of
their matriculation. Does this not subdue the critical value that graduation
time plays in our lives and what about the graduation course?
