Auto 3 AM

Image
At 3 AM, Rajesh reaches the railway station as it is the time when a few trains arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station. As customers come out of the 'exit', he along with other taxi walas, auto walas, private tourist vehicles, and under a cringe shade of previously booked ubers and olas, hunt and chase for the bohni, the days' opening wage starts. Tearing across this crowd, enticing customers with whereabouts, greetings, multiple rate offers, fighting competitors and ignoring neglect, if he gets lucky, the customer is led to the three-wheeled yellow-green auto, his factory. Rajesh is from Begusarai. He lives along with other fellows near the Gaffar Market in Delhi. It's a men's den, all away from their families and loved ones. Some of them cook their dinner together and some cook lunch. Rajesh is an early bird. He is awake by 2 AM and by 3 AM, he is at work of daily sustenance. Tightly stacked with a semi-woolen scarf, semi-insulated jacket &...

The last grain on the plate

Image
With the pandemic souring on our doors, it did provide the avenue of one good cause – letting go of the food wastages in magnanimous weddings due to the number of guest restrictions. It’s a social compulsion in India to hold bigger weddings and make it a life event by expending on decorations, clothes, people, and food. This industry is growing and with it the economic boost that it brings with it. In the morning when tons of food is wasted and thrown away, it casts poor on the record of a country dealing with severe malnutrition problem among the hungry populace. During several famines situation, Britishers had held Grand darbars and never shied in arranging the luxuries. This had antagonized the nationalists and the masses every time for the cause of independence. Now that we are independent, what has changed? Nothing… Every upper and middle-middle class Indian who has the luxury for extra food on the plate, think minimum before leaving it. No images of skinny feeble & dying chi...

Image

Health Sector of India

Think about Imagine the Indian Army working without the nationalistic feeling, something not to give back to the countrymen and the deservedly outcaste and excluded people a sense of security but to get back with benefits as individual concern & to make money. Indian doctors have turned themselves into one such money making machines. The health sector is increasingly encroached by private industries with more number of hospital beds in private hospitals than government hospitals. There is a clear-cut urban-rural divide where the private health industries has colonized the urban areas leaving the vast majority of the Indian rural population at bay. This being said, Indians spend 63% amount of their income in the out of pocket health expenditure. This makes more sense if we tend to realize that India is still a land of poor. The vast majority of the Indian population is hovering around the poverty line and keep on shifting above and below the line.  Think once about what a rick...

Liti chokha

The thela was taken care of by two young boys in their 14s and 19s. The younger one was shivering with the fallen temperature of the nearing winter. He is new to the city. He forgot his jacket in his place before coming for work. It was newly bought to him by the elder guy. They both belong to the same village. Unfortunately, the younger one lost both of his parents and was living with his uncle. He was dropped off the school and sent here at Delhi to earn for himself. He kept on a heavy oil on his black hair. He was skinny and wheatish with a refreshing smile that reverberated some kind of gratefulness. At his 14s, he will still gain some height. They were selling one of Bihar's special - liti chokha - a dish made out of flour and roasted and toasted with ghee along with other ingredients to be ready served with aloo baigan bharta! Their thela was situated besides India's one of the most profitable industries - IAS coaching institute preparing the aspirants for one of the buil...
