Buying your AC

It’s an unsurprising tale, as India’s GDP & people’s purchasing power capacity is increasing, more Indian dream of having an Air-conditioner at home is coming to a truther remain. As someone who is into this industry for some time, and as someone who keep on interacting with the customers, I jot few points for you to consider.

Brand

There are just as many brands in the market as you keep searching. Which one is your pick? It depends on: which part of India you reside, what is your budget, what is your history with having an AC and none of it, if you are already partial for one of it. Okay. Brands are categorized based on your budget. Aesthetics of the unit is least of concern. Obviously, if you have an upper edge on pocket, it doesn’t matter in the first place.

Service

As much as I understand, even metropolitan like Mumbai can deal a lot in getting good after-sale-service. So what’s the point? Wherever you live & whichever brand you are prying for, search for the Authorized service provider in your 5-10km of area. There you are. Hello! You don’t search that in your area. Most brands are already putting this info in their websites. You go their instead of randomly making a search at google! One of the AC installed back at my native, whenever my people have faced problem with cooling, they had to wait for the guy to come from another city altogether. I hope you understand what I am saying.

Tonnage

What is this! Let’s just say, it is what indirectly determines the amount of heat your future AC is going to make run away. Factors? The size of your Room, the count of people residing inside, the location of the room in your apartment and if I say more, which floor. Are you with me till now? Tell me in the comment section if you want to talk about it.

You know, many brands have a written saying for the type of unit to be installed in a residential place and one to be used at a commercial place. Let me make a point, when you live inside your home, you have fewer people inside. There are lesser door opening and thus less heat transaction with the outer world, lesser probability of the source of equipment like a printer machine and so on.

General principle is that you go for a 1 ton AC for 100 sq ft of area. 10 ft is the usual height of room in Indian houses. Now think, if you have got a very large window or one balcony separated by a sliding glass door opening on the side where sun greets you in full glory, you need to go for higher tonnage.

I get to hear from many online customers that the service guy is telling your AC is under-tonnage, and if he would install that unit, it’s going to have performance implications. Don’t ask me how much they get pissed by this.

Technology

The king of old world was Split Non-inverter AC. As I said, old, the one relevant for the times is Inverter AC. No, it is not like that when your electricity runs off, AC would keep working. Trust me, all of us are confused by this. There is something, called a compressor inside this machine. It kinda runs the show to make things cooler. Inverter AC has one which never stops working until unless the power is actually off. Okay, in the non-inverter AC, when the desirable temperature is actually achieved, the buddy goes for a lunch break. And when it does come back from it, it works in the highest speed. It consumes more electricity. So if you want to flaunt to someone that you care about nature, Green is another name for the Inverter AC.

Hope that this helps. I will talk more about this in my next blog. Bye.
